About Me Hello! My name is Claudia Harkins Aron. I'm a 65 year old Texas born woman who came to Cuenca in 2012 with my new husband, Les Aron, and six suitcases.
What on earth was I thinking? I assure you our friends and families either told us we were crazy to our faces or bit their tongues and made vague references to our imminent return with "tails tucked between our legs". We couldn't understand the attitudes, but we loaded up, waved "bye" and hopped on the plane.
Well, it turns out that we are certainly not alone. Ecuador has been an invigorating experience, but my favorite part is definitely the people, both the Ecuadorians and the expats.
It seems to me that people who are brave and adventurous enough to pull up stakes and relocate to a another country with a different language are a hearty lot. For the most part they are optimistic, energetic, and interesting. We have a wonderful, supportive community full of busy, involved people. So far, I can recommend this adventure. We may not stay here forever, but we have no plans to leave.
About this Site Whether retirement has been a long, well planned dream or a sudden change of daily life, there is no denying that it is a brand new phase of life.
How we fill the hours and use the precious time that is finally all ours will determine the quality of our lives. Will we fill them with enjoying the people, places, and activities that bring true joy? What should we choose? How and where will you spend the rest of your time on earth?
I am planning to do profiles of a number of people who have made unconventional choices that have brought them interesting days, new friends, and much happiness in unexpected places. I decided to create this site to explore these lifestyles and share them with others who may be pondering their future plans. I find these people fascinating. I hope you will enjoy meeting them, too.
I also know how many questions I had when we were making the decision to come to Ecuador. I will use this site to organize useful links and information for your research and possible relocation I hope it will be of help in your decisions.
